KUCHING: The story of Sarawakian boxer Sapok Biki, who won gold at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, will be brought to the big screen.

The film, titled "Tumbukan Emas", will tell Sapok's story from an Iban village in Simunjan to how he became Malaysia's first Commonwealth boxing champion, portraying his courage, commitment and dedication to overcome childhood bullying and excelling in the sport.

Director Jalot Jeman from Kamek Empun Production said he was inspired by Sapok's life to make the film.

"He's a legend who made history by winning the first gold medal in boxing for Malaysia at the Commonwealth Games.

"By making this film, we want to show the world that we have a boxing champion from Sarawak," he told a press conference here on Thursday (Jan 16).

Jalot said he met Sapok to get his consent to make the film, adding that his journey as a boxer to become a champion would be an inspiration to Sarawakian athletes.
