Julius Mendes Price was an English artist who worked for many years as an artist and correspondent for the Illustrated London News.
Born at 26 Doughty Street, St.
Pancras, in , he was the eldest child of Simon Price, a naturalized British subject born in Warsaw, Poland, who worked as a dry goods merchant and commissioning agent, and his wife Rachel (nee Joseph), who were married in
Price worked for the Illustrated London News as a special artist in South Africa and, in , undertook a journey which took him through Siberia, Mongolia, the Gobi Desert and into north China, ending his trip in Pekin.
His letters and sketches were published in the Illustrated London News and were the basis for a successful book, From the Arctic Ocean to the Yellow Sea, published in The book won Price a Fellowship of the Royal Geographical Society.
